Hi Guys,
The reason Edison might have wanted to measure the volume empirically
is because the bulbs he used back then were not of a consistent thickness,
many would have been hand or orally blown bulbs. Unliike today's bulbs
where they are all exactly the same, eeking out the absolute minimum
material necessary. Edison using his engineering sense would have known
that the displacement of the bulb would have be inconsistent and very
inaccurate. Well there's me thinkin' on that.
