[TheForge] Freak accident and another safety tip

Yes, great minds....I sometimes "recycle" my best students from previous
classes. The big thing is some of the new students need one-on-one
supervision. The teenagers do as they are told and learn quickly then
help the 60 year old students in later classes. Back in ancient history
my welding instructor used me to teach welding. My dad taught me in 1954
and I knew how to weld. My instructor knew I had already worked in a
welding shop and was just there to get certified. He had been badly
injured when a steel drum exploded and I was happy to be of assistance.
Which brings us to another safety warning:
Steel drums can explode even if they are "empty" or "cold"; cutting
propane tanks is another topic. My shop teacher was blown up when he
tried to cut the top out of a 55gal soap drum. It had no hydrocarbons in
it as the school janitor had just emptied it. He almost lost his leg.

Frostig, that's the ONLY way to teach ;-)
And, if you have a good student, you can make THEM teach- it improves
both of them.

Heat it up
Hit it hard
Repent as necessary.

It's the smith who makes the tools, not the tools which make the smith.
