All steel is an "alloy", which simply means its more than one element mixed together. 
Iron is an element. Steel is always an alloy, and, just like chocolate chip cookie recipes, there are thousands of different steel recipes.
there are other steel alloys that have trace amounts of aluminum added as well.

This is not to say that "Bones" is good science- obviously, its a hokey tv show written by english majors.
but even a stopped clock is right twice a day...
