Depends on where the lightning hits.   There are no fuses after the transformer.    Lightning can easily jump the gap of an open fuse anyway.   I think power company surges are covered but not 'acts of god'.

I don't know how it works where you are, but the power company was obliged to replace a bunch of equipment for me after lightening hit a nearby power pole. I think that in theory, their fuzes were supposed to protect the power user.
