[TheForge] Metallurgy and Powder Coating

Craig,
A friend of mine, a famous cave diver, had a fancy paint job done on his
aluminum scuba cylinders and it was baked on. The heat apparently
weakened the metal to the extent it exploded during the first fill
causing serious injury and the schrapnal wreaked havoc with the dive
shop. I don't know the baking heat or the alloy of the cylinder, but it
did weaken it. You might consider anodizing if you want a pretty color.

I have some aluminum alloy motorcycle brake calipers and wheels that I'd
like to powder coat. Would I weaken the aluminum by the heating
process to
the 400-500 degree range?
I know others offer the service, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.
