That's pretty much it.  Charcoal is charcoal.   There are just more or less efficient ways to produce it.

If you know more about it, then speak up. What does it have to do with 
anything? Myself, I use charcoal to smith with, so I'm looking at it 
as a possible source  of cheap fuel, as well as an interesting process 
in its own right. You got any better ideas?
