[TheForge] eco coke

Guess I kinda' jumped the gun on calling it a PC/Greenie scam then... it
sounds like it might be something useful after all...
Mike had mentioned the idea of Bio-char the other day (Thanks Mike! I'd seen
the video before but lost the link) - what the guy is doing in that is
<similar> to how I've been making my own charcoal for demos... But I do use
a retort method myself... 55 gal drum sideways with a pipe coming out of
the bung hole, going down under the barrel, and using the wood gas coming
off the wood to 'cook' my charcoal...
The last batch I did (last week) gave me enough charcoal to fill an old
burlap bag (roughly 35 gal.) to overflowing with lots of 'fines' left... I
use a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth to 'clean' the char - anything that falls
thru that gets saved to put into the garden and the big stuff gets bagged up
in the sack...
Kinda the best of both worlds... Trying to make the most of what I've
got... Heck I even save the wood ash from my wood burner in the winter... a
5 gal. bucket of ash is always kept out in my shop for slow cooling any
metal I'm 'normalizing'

Actually, it is some form of compressed wood that is subject to high
temperatures and extreme pressure during the forming process. All of the
places
that have been decimated by the weather has a bazillion pounds of wood that
can
be turned into this stuff. I saw something on the international news about
this
stuff, it looked interesting. BTW it is black.
