Wonderful post Steve! I've saved it for my reference.
I already do some stuff similarly, as I use my mill to clean up my billet
faces. I'm planning to bring them into work for a final touch-up with the
surface grinders.
I usually work with 1" wide stock. I can get blue tempered and polished
1095 from Admiral. In the thicker stocks I just sand the faces clean.
For your method, can I clean up the faces with glass beading, or will that
interfere with the dry welding?
I was planning on 1095 & CP Nickel with .015" and .005" layers
respectively, becase I wasn't aware of where to get 15N20 in .005" thick
coils. Do you mind sharing your source?
Thank you again for a great explaination.
