Clay Spencer says if you wear a glove, you should be able to sling it off your hand. Ear plugs are a necessity when we have two power hammers going at the same time, and a couple of grinders, etc.

I agree. I won't let students use gloves, other than for special
occasions, the reason being that people wearing gloves tend to be
careless, until that glove catches on fire. Having minor burns when
you're careless tends to teach you not to be careless- and that
applies to feet, I think. I bet if Peter Fels had been barefoot the
time he dropped that metal, he'd have gotten BOTH feet the Hel out of
the way ;-)
