A little humor helps get the point across. ....I do that when teaching
and admonishing the newbie's to wear protective clothing, foot wear,
hearing protection and safety glasses most of all.
It goes something like; "You younguns come out here want'n to be
blacksmiths with your hair floppin in the breeze, wearin shorts, tank
tops and barefoot sandals and no concept of safety. Well, I don't care
if you drop a piece of hot iron between those little pink toes and you
dance around a bit before somebody dunks you in the tub; it will heal in
time. Burn your fingers and it they'll heal. I don't care if you girls
wear low cut blouses; nice view 'til a hot cinder or piece of iron drops
down there. Maybe some kind soul will have pity and pour cold water down
your front. It takes a while for the ringing to affect your hearing, but
you can spend the bucks for a hearing aid; but you can't see s***t out
of a glass eye, so you WILL wear safety glasses- no exceptions; you
don't have a vote. This is a malevolent dictatorship wherein I make the
laws to which you will adhere.
If you want to blind yourself, do it on your own time. I don't want to
quit what I'm doing to take you to the hospital for stupid.:
I've only had one student walk out because I told him he was required to
wear safety glasses. He said the glasses I furnished didn't fit. Anyway,
he was back at the next class showing off his own new glasses.

It's the literary arena to which i can aspire...grin
That was one of my first articles.
Pleased to see it passing out the odd giggle again.
