But thats kind of my point- the schools here have realized that shop class is not worthless after all- and, maybe, in ten years, yours will too.
We live in an ag area, so fixing things has some value, and a big maritime area, so building and maintaining boats is a big industry around here- but we also have enough wealthy retirees, refugees from the city, and foreign second home owners that our tax base is high, and we vote for schools.

Part of it is that, aside from the last two years, our economy and population just keeps growing, so there has been more jobs than in some parts of the country.
