The Chief Nuclear Officer from Diablo met for a discussion yesterday,

According to what I read this morning, the Diablo Nuclear Plant is
scheduled to run until 2024, but is currently seeking commission extension
for an additional 20 years.
Not so funny now, but if Dai-ichi Tokyo Electric had been decommissioned
on schedule back in February, rather than recommissioned for another 10
years, much of the current hazard would have been avoided.

Americans citizens are told to get at least 50 miles away from the Daiichi
Nuclear plant. That unsafe zone is about a 35 mile larger diameter than
the Japanese Government had previously warned about, and probably
translates millions more people at risk.
Re: oil/ vs nuclear. I am not sure of the half life of some of the
fracking chemicals poured down oil wells.
Big oil is pumping tons of "fracking chemicals" down oil wells to release
more oil.
Big Oil got a law through congress that former President Bush signed, so
they don't even have to disclose what fracking fluids are composed of, but
these are potentially poison, pumped down into the water table, but some
of those are chemicals are coming back up in the water.
There are tons of stories out their about people getting toxic well water,
but below... is a story that appears to be a 2008 account:
http://www.newsweek.com/2008/08/19/a-toxic-spew.html
That is a story on fracking fluid illness affect the hospital emergency
room, carried in there by a sick petroleum worker with fracking fluid on
his boots.
