That IS depleted uranium that you are talking about.

There are problems with depleted uranium.  For one, is it isn't
completely depleted -- there's still some radioactivity.  And if it
should ignite, watch out.  It is used in armor-piercing shells for two
reasons -- it adds immense density to the projectile, and when it
penetrates, it liquefies (probably more like  a plasma than a liquid,
actually) and bursts into intense fire, like magnesium does when it is
ignited.  Then the hulk of the target retains the radioactivity of the
depleted uranium.  Fun stuff.  A direct result of the "atoms for
peace" projects of the '50's.
