Boring leads to complacency. Complacency leads to additional accidents<G>.
I have found that a judicious application of wire brush does very well as a light sander. Particularly if I just want to get rid of some surface scale prior to welding, or get rid of a raw cut on the end of a piece.
Dan Tull says that a person should dress both the end of the piece he/she just cut off, and the end of the piece going back into the stock pile. I do this almost religiously. It only takes once or twice to grab a pointy burr on the end of a piece bare handed, to get the message. It is a much easier learn if Dan tells me, than if I poke myself a couple of times, and learn on my own<G>.
All the best.

The grinder, the buff and the power wire brush, especially the latter,
are a nasty combination of
dangerous and boring!
