Another thing about brush motors:

Maybe everybody knows this but I didn't know it for 60 years and soon
after I learned it, I encoutered another guy who needed to know it and
didn't. So:

You can reverse the rotation of some brush motors by opening an access
panel, loosening a set screw and rotating the brush holder assembly from
alignment with the current mark to alignment with the other mark. (And
re-tightening the set screw, of course.)

Learning that saved me much pain with setting up a 25# Jardine in the
present shop.
