Andy -- install a "coalescing filter" between the well head and the
regulator. This will condense the liquids and filter out any
particles. Liquids or solids in your regulator can lock the poppet
valve open, passing full well pressure downstream. Even if you don't
use a regulator, this shit can foul a valve or orifice.

All it is is a filter element in a bowl, with the plumbing "backwards"
-- the input is to the outside of the filter element and the output is
from the center of the element. Just be careful to get a bowl rated
for the max pressure you might encounter. A metal bowl is less
convenient than a transparent one, but may be a lot safer. If you use
a transparent one, make sure it has a perforated metal guard on the
outside to contain any rupture.

Let me know if you want me to watch locally for such a device, but you
might do as well over ebay, or even by making it yourself from
plumbing parts. Use a big enough "bowl" to catch a lot of shit before
you need drain it, and be sure to have a drain cock for draining. The
liquid you catch, of course, is flammable and may be burned for light
or heat -- but not indoors. It's of too unknown a chemistry to trust
its safety for indoor use.
