Any acid.  For greatest safety, use vinegar with a bit of liquid
detergent mixed in to dissolve any oil film.  Leave it overnight and
check it.  Too long will etch the steel, but onlyslowly.  This mix has
the advantage of low toxicity and low corrosivity.  If your dog is
dumb enough to drink it, it won't kill him but it might make him wish
he were dead for a while.
