Philp,
Your instincts may be right, but I was wishing Terry well.
Winning a court settlement, and actually collecting it are quite different
things.
Even if Terry Ridder finally "won" a potentially large settlement; the
company that was fund it,.. ( the loser ) can tie it up for years in
additional appeals.
The larger the settlement, the more it is worth the losing party's
additional legal costs to delay and appeal the settlement.
In a worst case scenario, during the time lag, during course of appeals,
they preempt the payment court ordered settlement with a bankruptcy after
diverting the corporate funds. Then it becomes a proof of fraud and
trying to fund that additional litigation.
When I inquired about an effort to collect a loss from a bankruptcy that
appeared fraudulent to me, I remember 25 years ( or so) ago... that a
bankruptcy attorney told me that he believed over 60 percent of all
bankruptcies involved bankruptcy fraud... but attempting to prove it was
usually not worth while.
Last that I remember Terry L. Ridder posting stuff on this list, was when
he was discussing ship board / machine shop / tooling to take on his
ship(s).
As I recall, wasn't he was planning a total of 3 salvage type ships ? At
the time, I thought that he might have been inspired by author Clive
Cussler after reading a Dirk Pitt novel... that caught his fancy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirk_Pitt. Shipping in international waters
isn't quite so safe just now. Pirates abound, and not just in the
Caribbean.
On that facebook page .. I note that Terry's one blacksmith "Facebook
friend" that I have in common with, is Dave Mudge.
