I use the top (hemispherical portion) of the safety cap from a high pressure
cylinder- they charge me about $5 for them at the gas supplier- makes a
perfect form for ladles.
The trick (thanks Peter Ross!) is to remember that what you're doing is not
stretching the middle but upsetting the rim, thickening and shrinking it
somewhat.
Use enough heat, and be sure to tap that edge so it doesn't wrinkle as it
shrinks.
