I'm actually doing woodworking at the moment. I picked up a cute
little table that I want to use to hold my laptop when I'm down in the
house with my roommates. It's quarter sawn oak, about 50 years old,
and yesterday I took it apart and cleaned the glue (and a couple of
finishing nails) out of all the joints. Today, I'll be re-gluing and
clamping it. Tomorrow, I'll likely finish putting the linoleum tiles
together that I'm going to use as a temporary protective surface for
it, until I have a use for it that will allow the very pretty
patterned oak surface to show.
I suppose I can understand why someone put the finishing nails in the
joints, but everything is so well- fitted, that it's just a shame no
one reglued it like I'm doing. Of course, if they had, I wouldn't have
gotten it so cheaply at the flea market ;-)
Think I'm also going to take a good look at the lovely little triple
fold mirror I picked up for $3, see if it just needs a bit of
cleaning, or if it would benefit from more intensive refurbishing.
It's not old enough that I need to worry about reducing its "antique"
value. I suspect that a bit of TLC, and I might be able to sell it for
20 or 30 dollars, to the right person.
