There have been several DIY versions of this, including the melting of silver and bronze by a guy named David Reid (http://home.c2i.net/metaphor/mvpage.html). You need a crucible that is a good microwave absorber including ferrite or other magnetic ceramic materials. There are a couple of commercial systems that are used to reprocess (melt) scrap uranium using commercial high power microwave ovens
