[TheForge] burners

James, blown forge burners are very simple. A 1& 1/2" T fitting with
about a 10" pipe to go into the forge and a 4" piece onto which to adapt
a hose (like a vacuum cleaner)and a plug drilled out in line with the
10" pipe for a 1/4" or 1/8" pipe to which a valve is attached for the
gas. The size of the orifice is not critical; 1/8" or 1/4" will work.
The small pipe extends just beyond the air inlet. I use a "red head"
regulator onto which a gage is attached and normally runs 5 or 6 lbs.
Simple, but it will reach welding heat in a Freon tank lined with kao
wool and satanite. It works best with a large gas supply as the 20lb
tanks will freeze up. If you have to use a small cylinder it helps to
keep some water hot to pour on it or have the tank in a tub of water.

I too am considering a natural gas forge but I have 12-15 lbs
pressure available so I hope to go naturally aspirated. Still debating
whether to build or buy the burner(s).
