Exactly. Do what works for you. One size almost never fits all.
One year at Gichner's Beau Hickory was demonstrating. Nice guy and
accomplished. The one thing that surprised me, however, was his
one-siz-fits-all approach where he said you have to stand HERE and hold
the hammer THIS way and the handle MUST be 8-sided and...
Had I taken that to heart I think I would have injured myself in some
non-trivial way. I tried it and it most certainly did NOT work for me.
On those occasions when I teach I always encourage people to try new
things - be open minded. You never know when something new will really
work well for you. Likewise, if it is strongly not working for you,
drop it. Knowing the difference... that's where lies the art.
