[TheForge] Why an acetylene leak is not desirable

I carried Presto-lite 'b' tanks in a work truck for years. Other than
making sure the tanks are SECURELY fastened or strapped, at least make
sure that the tank valve is off. 'B' tanks are notorious for leaking
stem packings. If you are worried or just don't want to run out of gas
when you most need it, plug the tanks.

Just spoke to the folks at Western Enterprises and the said a CP-520 gas
tight plug is available for the CGA-520 presto-lite tanks. If you need
to transport a tank, these are a good idea. Comparable plugs are
available for oxygen, acetylene and propane tanks.

Aside from the safety side, they will keep the gas available for when
you need it next.

On a related note, I was able to attend the Fabtech show in Chicago a
couple of weeks ago. There was a great demonstration of the efficacy of
flashback arrestors as compared to check valves or no valves. All I can
say is that I will be adding them...

BTW, i just saw a commercial for for an upcoming Orange Count Choppers
episode where they filled a 55 gallon garbage bag with oxygen and
acetylene... if a static spark had set off that mix, the series would
have ended right then and there...
