All my key stock, I anneal it before doing any cold work with it. It will break guaranteed, I don't know it's pedigree. Sable Steel is my supplier.

Subject: [TheForge] Tanning leather and key stock

Tanning leather is hard and expensive. Go to an upholsterer and get some leather off an old couch. Or go to Goodwill and get a leather couch... I recently did a bellows for a historical reenactment site and the couch leather worked well.

On the key stock, the cold rolled is probably better than current hot rolled - A36. I have had problems with A36 breaking in basket twists.
