Very cute.  By the time she's 5 she'll probably be asking him much
more pointed questions than "why?".
I, too, believe in assuming kids are smarter than most people seem to
think they are.  I think talking baby talk should be punishable by
caning -- if the talker is over 8 years old and of sound mind.
