The pushrods from 36HP Volswagen engines (1960 and before) are just
the right size for making .22 zip gun barrels.

I knew you wanted to know that.

If I were going to make a boar spear, I'd probably use an offcut from
the truck-spring shop (i.e. new stock, not old, possibly cracked
springs.)   Used that to make a tine for my TroyBilt roto-tiller and
it's lasted for several years.
