My anvil horn points true west. I realize this is wrong but I have a
workaround:  I have a rare earth magnet from a computer HD on the side
of the anvil that reorients the anvil's magnetic field and makes
everything okay.  It gets covered with a fur of tiny scale chips but
that's okay.

If you change to a different orientation, you may have to degauss your
anvil and then apply a new magnet to get full effect.

If you try this yourself, the only real problem will be keeping a
straight face when you explain to visitors what the shiny thing (or
furry spot) on the anvil is for.  And don't forget to tell them that
if they have a pacemaker, not to stand directly in line with the point
of the anvil horn, okay?
