That's cool Andy as I dig that design and have been been keeping my eye out
for good iron cross ideas in case I were to get a commission for a monument.
Serendipity I guess. Could be a while as not much of a demand for these any
more as
most cemeteries have this flush with the ground only policy now so the machines
can
mow the grass. It would definitely be galvanized if I were to get lucky. I
notice the silver smiths have some good designs of them but are a bit intricate
for large work.
About a decade ago after running into a lot of large concrete and stone Celtic
monuments in Ireland and no iron ones, it dawned on me all the iron ones had
rusted out as it was a few thousand years ago when the Celts got converted. The
first cross monument was probably iron and these concrete and few stone ones
were just renditions of them. So I just had to make a few with mild steel when
I got back. I posted a picture of a cross the way I thought the blacksmiths of
that era could have made them. This one is only 9 inches high.
