As recently as 40 years ago, you could still buy a cast iron,
wood-burning range meant for the kitchens of remote lumber camps.  Two
fireboxes, two large ovens, twelve "burners" and, in the center, a
griddle big enough to play hockey on (presumably by tying a bacon to
each foot?).  IIRC, warming ovens over the stove were optional.  I
suppose with 50 or a 100 hungry lumberjacks, nothing sat around long
enough to worry about it getting cold.
