[TheForge] oil/wax finish, blackened steel

I'm not totally sure about the chemistry involved, but from casual
observation, it seems that the minute amounts of scale formed by heating the
steel to low red at least are necessary to get the nice pretty black finish
that wax or oil impart.

No, that's probably what I need to do to even it out...I was hoping that
remaining in denial about that would be all that was needed...or that the
shop elves would solve it while I'm indoors having coffee
