Bob
As a picture is worth a thousand words, I posted a picture in photo access under
shpeley album of a set that I know works well as I have made and tested a
number of them. three eighths round is the usual material for a 24 inch set. 7
sixteenths round may be better for 32 in length. The overlap at the pinhole is
about one and half inches. For wood stoves the business end holds the log
parallel to the handle.

Subject: [TheForge] Log tongs?

This last weekend I had someone request a pair of fire place, log tongs. I
have never made these. Do you have any suggestions on the design /
porportions of such tongs. He wants them to be 32" total length so I was
thinking 10" for the jaws and 22" for the handles. I would appriciate input
from those of you that have made them.
