[TheForge] OT: John/Johan is in the hospital...

Good morning,

I'm not sure who has and has not heard, so I am sending this out broadly.  I
am Jerod, John's son, and he asked me to let folks know that he is in the
hospital due to some complications with his chemotherapy.  It seems that the
therapy is so aggressive that it dropped his white blood cell count down to
nothing (-0.7) on Wednesday, which allowed an opportunistic little group of
staph bugs to run rampant in his body...  The result of which was a rapid
trip to Robinson Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room, accompanied by two fine
gentleman from Rootstown Fire Department in their shiny new ambulance.
After 5 hours in the Emergency Room his admission to the hospital and
stabilization was complete.  Today being Friday, the work of the medical
staff appears to be working well, and I just got off the phone with him and
he asked me to let everyone know how he's doing...

Yeah, he ain't dead, which makes those of us in the family very happy, and
saves on air fresheners.  Talking to him this morning he sounded almost like
his old self, and is in good spirits and annoyed that he doesn't have
internet access.

For those wishing to send flowers... What the hell are you thinking?  He
stopped eating those things after Pennsic 26...  Seriously, calls are
probably best, he'll likely be out of there before anything mailed got to
him.  

Please don't take my levity as a lack of seriousness...  It's been a
stressful couple days and it's nice to write a positive mailing to all of my
dad's compadres, rather than something a lot less so.  Please keep him in in
your 
thoughts/prayers/meditations/whateverPCthingyourreligionorlackthereofdoes.
It's appreciated, and it helps.
