You can also buy heat transfer oils made for things like tar kettles and 
such. They have high flash points and are low toxicity. I used to salvage a 
5gl bucket when we changed the oil in the crack pot and it worked very well. 
We can get new here at the Standard oil tank farm or one of the other bulk 
oil places, I think one of the fuel oil delivery outfits would order a 
bucket for a little extra. A paving or roofing company might be able to put 
you in touch with a supplier.

I've also used a synthetic hydraulic fluid called DN-600 with good results. 
I haven't seen the stuff in years but haven't looked either.
