That'd never hold him.

We had it out about 2-3 months ago.  Girls were in season and Ed was 
being a real pill.  He took a very serious swag at me, which would have 
left my intestines all over the ground had he connected and I just lost 
it.  Grabbed a digging bar (20#) and hit him hard enough to kill any 
three human beings you care to name.  Several times.  All it managed to 
do was get him REALLY pissed off at me to the point he was pawing at the 
ground like a bull.  At one point the choice was on me to draw the 
pistol and kill him or sail over the fence.  I sailed like I was 19 
again.  Seems I am no longer really the boss.  Ed now tolerates my 
presence but if he doesn't want me around he makes no bones about it.  I 
tread most carefully in his presence these days.
