[TheForge] Equipment for a newbie

I am not sure if I would add propane to charcoal, I just would not try it for
fear of fire balls or the pressure of the gas pushing the coals away or apart.
When I lived in the burbs, a coal forge was considerd by the city as open
burning, where my propane forge was considered to be something like a gas grill.
The city wanted me to have a 5 lb extinguisher handy if I was going to use the
propane forge.
The big thing was my insurance company, they didn't want me using the propane
forge in the garage or other parts of my house.
Out here in the country side what regulations there are, really doesn't address
the issue of forges, but my insurance still has condition they want met to have
converage.

No Matt, adding propane to a solid fuel forge won't do any good at all. Find
a hair drier a little plumbing pipe and use the charcoal. Besides if fire
code won't allow propane it won't allow propane, ESPECIALLY a home made
appliance.
Phlip knows exactly what she's talking about. Being SCAdian she's well
versed in smithing within a given period and forging or casting most
everything with charcoal is far older than coal or other solid fuels.
If you get a location where code allows a propane forge let me know I'll be
more than happy to help you out.
