Quench Polish Quench.
Initial carbonitride process is followed with mechanical polishing (usu
lapping), followed by another Carbonitriding. This produces a very wear
and corrosion resistant finish. The problem for smithing purposes would
lie in how to nitride large pieces. I'm thinking the polishing may be
accomplished with light bead blasting.
