Wait...was it a .925 example, or just a sterling plated one?
Hm...a Sterling example of steel behaviour...should I steel myself for a 
steely critique of silver behaviour?

Allegedly, a tightly adhering coat of iron phosphate is formed that
is to some degree water resistant and rust-preventing.

I had a sterling example....
