[TheForge] why doesn't cast iron oxidize and burn in the sameway?

When we had very large plate mill backup rolls that need to be scraped it
was cheaper to bring in a special contractor to cut them up on site and ship
the chucks to the scrap yard. Total roll weight was over 400,000 pounds.
(220 inch wide aluminum plate mill).

The contactor used tank trucks of liquid O2 and an O2 lance. Generated a
large orange cloud of smoke (iron oxide). They did one at night and a
neighbor reported to 911 that a airplane had crashed at the plant site. The
cutting was done outside.
