Dave; It's an air hardening steel and tends to come out
pretty brittle. It's great for intense hot work cause it
survives when other tool steels mush out.
EA Chase said " Heat and beat" and grinned. He got away
with that because he made very beefy tools from it.
I watched him cut slits yellow hot 1" plate under a power
hammer with a stubby H13 chisel. The chisel turned cherry
red and continued to cut just fine.
He said, why heat treat when you are going to blow any
temper the first time you use it?
I draw the temper until i can get a file to grab a little.
The book heat treat is elaborate and requires long
holding temperature times in a temp controlled furnace.
