Surfboard wax is certainly not pure. There is a fair amount of other
stuff mixed in -- I believe it's mostly coconut oil. Some waxes have
pigments or dies added, and basecoat wax seems to have some sort of
resin added. But a bar costs $1.00--$2.00, so I thought it would make a
cheap and (for some) easy way to try out something different. I've been
using straight beeswax for everything, so I haven't used any for
blacksmithing. I'd love to hear back if it does (or doesn't) work,
though.
