I have problems with dry skin also. In making knife sheaths, I use a final treatment of SnoSeal waterproofing. I noticed that my hands got much softer and cracked less. I mix in a bit of Burt's Bees Wax to make it smell better - euchaliptis (sp?), so that it doesn't smell so much of mink oil. 

Recently, had my knee replaced and started using cocobutter on the scar. It softens my hands too and smells better than SnoSeal .
