Mike,

I really like the idea of using a treadle-board attached to a chain hold
fast.

Thanks for the ideas.   I have  a chain hold fast.  The chain is bolted to
one side of the anvil base, and when needed, flipped over the anvil with
the chain bolted through the eye of a 12 pound sledge hammer head.  I'd
seen this somewhere, and for me, the weighted holdfast had worked better
than my home made pritchel "spring" type hold fast.

The treadle board makes better sense.
