[TheForge] HILL anvil info?

Yes, it's Birmingham (England). I have one that is older than I and has been
on the farm since I was a kid. It was badly abused before my dad rescued it
and we used it to forge weld target linkage for the range. It appears to be
three wrought iron pieces forge welded together with a steel face. My guess
is it was made in the mid 1800's.

Subject: [TheForge] HILL anvil info?

About to part with my first anvil, cleaned it up a bit and found:

        H I L L

     Birming [ham?]

Anybody know the background? Google turns up fragmentary, sometime
contradictory info and reports that Postman gives it only a passing
mention.

FWIW, has hardy and pritchel holes, appears to have forge-welded face,
is a 1 1 4, kinda stubby-looking rather than the elegant lines of a PW.
