We have guinies which make a lot of noise when disturbed. The problem is
they roost in the rafters of the barn, so unless someone is there to steal
hay they don't make a peep. Besides the barn is too far from the house for
us to hear anyway.
We used to have geese on our pond, but they discovered there was more food
at the farmstead and we couldn't get them to stay at the pond. When the
started biting my wife on the back side they had to go. We have some wild
geese nest at the pond in the spring, but as soon as the chicks hatch out
they take off to parts unknown.

We got geese to protect our flocks. However the geese got smart. They
found out quickly that when they started making a noise, that the predators
changed direction and came for them. After that, not a peep from them in
the middle of the night, even during Armageddon.

That could be. The whole skunk thing seems to have had an impact. He had
tied into one when he was a pup, and had avoided skunks for many years. I
think he had forgotten how nasty they are before this last one.

More likely, when he got the skunk, and the deprivation thereafter, he
figured it just wasn't worth it to get out of bed in the middle of the
night for some stupid chickens ;-)
