Not all that hard, actually.  Just "visit" a number of benches and
chairs and note which are comfortable and which are not.  Angle of
seat, curviture of seat, and angle of back are big factors.  Height
can matter as well.  (Remember that olf folks and cripples often
CANNOT get up from a low seat.)  Arms are good.
The city will love you if you put an arm in the middle so the bench
cannot be used as a bed -- but actually that adds comfort for sitters
as well.  If you sympathize with the sleepers, come up with a
swing-away center arm!
