Maybe I''m slow, but I've just discovered Google News' "custom sections".
First, log into your Google account (or create one for free, if you
don't have one already).
Then, anytime you do a search on Google news, like for "Blacksmith",
you can scroll to the bottom of the page and then click on the middle
link which says, "Add a custom section for Blacksmith to Google News"
and that section will be added to the normal list that includes World,
US, Business, etc.
Then if you want to change anything on this list, click on "Top
Stories" on the left, then look for "News for you - Edit
personalization" and click on that link. After that it's
self-explanatory. This is where you delete custom sections you don't
want anymore. I'd like to delete some politicians and celebrities
too, but Google doesn't offer that option yet.
I downgraded "Sci/Tech" to zero priority and inserted a "Science
-tech" section, so I wouldn't have to bother wit all that techy crap
about iPods, Blackberries, etc. I've added a few local sections, like
"New Jersey -sports" so I don't have to see the latest sports
pseudo-news along side stuff I may really be interested in.
Good stuff.
