Problem solved - tho not installed yet. HD has thin copper flashing for $60 for a 12"x20' roll. I will cut that into 4" strips to give me 4" x 60', which is enough to do the north side. I didn't find copper-clad nails, but I plan to put this down on top of the shingles using a tar-like material.
