Like Mike says it's a blunted awl or icepick-like tool that is used to lift
wool out of the card teeth on a drum carder. The commercial models are
straight needles on a handle very like a blunt ice pick or long awl. Mine
are long flattened "S" curves so they lever the wool out with minimum
strength and point pressure on delicate lady hands.
