[TheForge] brazing revisited

I used the pencil trick in College where they had us brazing pieces together. Now honestly, I don't remember the type of braze or anything else, just this odd piece of trivia. At this point I've had my wife twice as long as her parents had her, and things are getting fuzzy when I try to remember<G>. Just as a reference to when I was in college and met the wife.<G> The wife says by now it's my fault if she is messed up.<G>

Thanks- the pencil trick worked very well with plumbing solder, but I
don't think it makes a strong enough joint- I'll try one of these with
silver braze.
The Harris 15% silver really is a pleasure to use, though color match
isn't very good (on red brass pipe).
So far best results come from TIG weld with Silicon Bronze filler, though
the zinc in the pipe has an annoying tendency to cook off at a few degrees
above welding temp...takes a light touch indeed to get a decent bead.
There's a kind of momentum as I heat the pipe, once its hot enough to be
willing to weld, difficult to back off so that the zinc doesn't burn off.
Fun stuff.
